In the summer of 1859, gold was discovered in the Blue River and not long after Breckenridge is established in the Rocky Mountains of Summit County, Colorado, and you can still see much of that history around town by checking out some of the 249 historic district structures or the Gold Pan Saloon that is still standing and operating as a permanent structure since 1879.

Our mountain town attracts those that seek an outdoor, adventurous lifestyle and variety who are just starting their adult lives, are retired, and more and more the in-between. Located at 9,600 feet above sea level is the downtown and a Summit Elevation of close to 13,000, our town is 7 miles long and 2 miles wide, with 3,690 acres or 5.5 square miles. We have over 4,800 full-time residents and during our high season, we can have almost 8x as many visitors or second owners here on a given day.

Though many first think of Breckenridge as world-class, ski destination managed by Vail Resorts, we have so much more to offer the first and second homeowner, we have arts & culture with numerous festivals throughout the year, fishing in the Blue River or riding part of the 50 mile Summit County bike path, golf, tennis, and approximately: 200 shops, 80 restaurants/bars, and 500 guest lodging businesses.
